How is GPA Calculated?

1. Grade Conversion (International)

For students with international grades (e.g., China), grades are first converted to the U.S. equivalent.

Chinese Grade U.S. Equivalent
90 - 100A
85 - 89B
80 - 84B

2. GPA Conversion Scale

Each U.S. letter grade is converted into points based on the standard 4.0 scale.

Grade Points Grade Points
A+ / A4.0C+2.3
A-3.7C2.0
AB3.5C-1.7
B+3.3CD1.5
B3.0D+1.3
B-2.7D1.0
BC2.5F0.0

3. The Calculation Formula

Multiply the grade points by the credits for each class. Add the total points and divide by total credits.

Credits Grade Points Total
3A4.012.0
3B3.09.0
2B3.06.0
Total Points: 12.0 + 9.0 + 6.0 = 27.0
Total Credits: 3 + 3 + 2 = 8
Cumulative GPA: 27.0 ÷ 8 = 3.38

Why it matters?

Your GPA is more than just a number—it's a key metric for college admissions, scholarship eligibility, and even future employment opportunities.

Understanding how each assignment affects this number empowers you to prioritize your study time effectively.
